just a thought. There was a bit of a race condition when using an automount NAS and Plasma5 when the network wasn’t up yet on FreeBSD also resulting in slow boots and black screens. (Plasma starts with black screen)
You were able to work around by disabling anything that has to do with recent files and file tracking in the activities… but ymmv
