Possible problems with recent KDE release?

Environment: Fedora 44, latest KDE from Fedora repos, long time Linux/Fedora user.

Recent release exhibits a couple of issues that are bugging me.

Selection of text in various places is not always placed on the clipboard, yielding often erroneous operation when what was selected was supposed to be pasted. ctrl-c seems to be effective, but automatic placing from mouse-selected is not reliable

Okular launches promptly but has a lengthy(!) delay before rendering the document.

Both issues have appeared sometime within the last month or there-abouts. I am not sure where I can go to determine if it is a local problem or a KDE release issue.

Bill Lee

Output of kinfo would be a good start :+1:

hi, welcome.

check clipboard settings to see if selection and clipboard a supposed to be synced.

i do not sync mine so that i can use middle button to paste from the selection buffer and use one of my mouse buttons to paste from the clipboard.

comes in extremely handy when i just want to reorder some text and just need a “third hand”

Clipboard settings are “keep the selection and clipboard the same”

Two activities where I see it occurring:

I use Firefox browser to access ChatGPT on my desktop. Quite often I need to cut-n-paste a portion of its response out of a portion that ChatGPT annotates with a ‘copy’ icon, the selection does not get echoed into the clipboard until I ctrl-C. Selections made from other areas of the Firefox ChatGPT responses appear to synchronize correctly without needing a ctrl-C.

The second is when using LibreOffice Writer. Selecting some text does not get placed in the clipboard except the very first character. Again ctrl-C correctly synchronizes the Writer selection with the clipboard.

The reason for initiating this thread is that this functionality seems to have only occurred recently.

Just guessing, but would this have anything to do with Wayland vs XWayland modes? i.e. native wayland apps work fine, but apps running on XWayland experience the behaviour your experiencing?

Squeaky wheel? Today, the Okular has no delays opening a document. Whatever fixed the problem: thanks!

The other problem, synchronizing the selection in LibreOffice Writer persists. I’ll try to upload a partial screen dump that illustrates. (I hope I can make it work.)

FYI, I place my working panel at the top: my preference.

I hopped back to fedora kde yesterday and had a very odd moment where after updating my system, restarting, i had bunch of issues opening settings and things. Then as i was troubleshooting that, i got another batch of updates and all has been good now.

Did you encounter anything similar?
