Quick Tile to Center

I can Quick Tile Left, Quick Tile Right, etc.

I would love to be able to Quick Tile Center, where it uses, say the middle 60% of the screen, with a keyboard shortcut, e.g. Meta+Home or Meta+Num5 or whatever makes sense on my keyboard.

As a workaround, it could also be implemented in terms of the custom tile layouts, though there are no keyboard shortcuts for that either (
Keyboard shortcuts for new tiling feature).

This would be particularly useful on widescreen monitors, where maximizing the window often means the content is on the left, rather than in the center.

hi, welcome.

you can only achieve that sort of arrangement with meta+t custom tiling and instead of using the keyboard shortcuts, you hold down the shift key while dragging the window with the mouse.

looks like they are working on being able to assign shortcuts to the custom tile feature but it’s not there yet.

that said, holding meta allows me to grab a window anywhere with the mouse to move it (not just the by the title bar) and then adding shift allows me to move it to a custom tile

I mapped meta-c to center the current selected window.
I was frustrated that I cannot resize a window while said window is anchored to the center of the current screen.
One can drag a corner to resize a window, however, I wished there was a meta+“drag a corner” so that the window is sized while its center is anchored.

if centering works for you then you can also change the title bar mouse actions to maximize vertically the window and that does not affect the centered position.

there is no maximize to 60% option tho (maybe there should be).

but if you are ok with dragging, then using the custom tile (Meta-T) feature and Meta+Shift dragging is your most flexible option.
