Energy :
why not directly implement a Energy Cost calculator with a small textbox for setting up the actual electricity price [ 0,37 ] € where calculating the actual used stream per day, per nonth and per Year, also the Batterie Charching price could be calculate, j.f.f., but the calculating per month and per jear makes the eyes open how many costs the computer.. and could allow a comparison between a regular computer and a Raspberry Pi for power consumption(worldwide ..). I had let run a 500W normal Miditower in the last years as my Server in the basement and at the last Year have i install a rasberry with fedora and have a 8Tb(Store/smb) and a 256Gig(NC) and have change out my Regulary MTServer, i have become back over 150 Bugs at Energymoney, but the knowing about how For this, a direct electricity calculator that spits out general electricity costs and, if you charge your battery elsewhere, how much bugs’ you can save on electricity.

As Suggestion..

Sound:
I be at moment to make diffrent Sound-Themes for the Sounds-folder, would be really nice, if there be in the Wiki a list for “default-Names”.snd in KDE/Plasma for have a list to create a stereo-folder of them whould sounds,a couble of them can be found in the other Themes, like Freedesktop, Oxygene, but not all names, so would also very nice, if there a Wikientry with all default-names ot the used sounds in SystemSounds and also if possibile they are in Notifications and program sound settings, the whole sound-names for creating a sound-theme in ~sounds and be able to design the sounds with the right names for all listed events.

Sound things in Systemsettings6,
Why do you not combine the

Soundsystem:

  • Sound
  • Notification - Config (there maybe a Button where also spits out a Soundnamelisting as Text for create a sounds-theme this button could collecting all defaultsound-names from the actual default-sound name out of/from the WM-system (Events-defsound-name.txt from Plasma/kde))
  • Notification (Events)
  • Programm Notifications(Events)

therewith is all together from the WM in one Soundsystem Sublisting and really easy to find.

p.s. the thing with trash as single klick in Desk is not good, should be like all Folders (config)

p.s. keep it up!

You seem the kind of person that would benefit from this:

As would we — we would love to have you get directly involved in implementing your ideas.

  1. i be not a programmer,
  2. I’m not familiar with the code structure and I don’t know how to write it in, either. I’m “just” an extended user and designer, as you can see from my icon themes.

But thank you for the offer

I need the information; I don’t have it, which is why I’m asking for it… And I’m sure many others out there feel the same way because they simply don’t have certain information. If you can’t provide it, that’s fine. I’ve collected some information over the last 25 years and I have it at hand, having witnessed how everything has grown. That’s why I know to ask about it…

We need people with all sorts of skills, not only developers. We need translators, documenters, designers, event-organisers, you name it. Whatever your skills, it will probably be useful.

Think about it, and let us know.

I asked a question, and you’re shoving me over the edge. I don’t like it and I don’t like it…
Don’t you think I would do it if I wanted to? You’re more likely to scare me off than get me on board… and don’t you think I could have done that in the last 25+ years?
This shoving is a bit annoying and is actually putting me off. Thanks for the conversation.

Shoving you over the edge? You might want to re-read.. he politely mentioned they could benefit from your involvement.

From the point of view of someone who develops open source but isn’t involved in KDE development myself, your etiquette comes across as a little entitled with an expansive laundry list of what other people should be working on for free when you’re not helping out even though you ‘could have done that in the last 25+ years’ ‘if [you] wanted to,’
especially in direct response to a report on all the lovely stuff these guys have given us for free this week.

This is slightly strange phrasing.
This is definitely supported.

It is one of the best features of Plasma for people who regularly connect projectors or presentation screens to their laptop.

Easiest way to start is by “cloning” the laptop’s internal display onto the projector and then reduce the projector’s resolution to be smaller than that of the laptop screen.

That way the “top left” portion of the screen will be shared/projected while you still have “private” areas that only you can see.

I’ve use this hundreds of times, most recently at the KDAB Training day after Qt World Summit 2025.

It happens to be possible if you jump through some hoops. That’s not the same as it being supported. It causes lots of fun bugs that are really difficult to fix, and is not something we want users to experience.

@Zamundaaa, so why not merely display a warning, like the font configuration one?

Hello, excellent work as usual! I’ve been running 6.4 beta 1 and 2 for the last few weeks, and whenever plasma crashes, dr konqi actually uses all my ram and swap trying to generate a stack trace, while ultimately failing every time
Is this a known issue? also is there something I can do about it? running gdb manually and printing the backtrace works just fine

Hi Doomlover ;),

i have also in
Operating System: Fedora Linux 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Kernel Version: 6.14.9-300.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
Manufacturer: ARLT Computer Produkte GmbH
Product Name: Mr. Gamer X-Treme GTX 580 SNB
System Version: 1.0/2.0

also problems with the Ram-Management, i open a couples Windows and i become only the Windowsdeco to see in Glinched way and the other is away, can not open other windows and so on, the whole check it out should be in Wayland/Plasma Windows Ram-Management and this should it fixing in the next way if possible, because the errors disturbs really the working with different Apps and more as 5 Open Windows..
or as example, Open Virtualbox and VLC-TV-Stream and you have a massive problem to open other windows like Systemsettings & more as 5 Windows with dolphin…
And i have 32Gig Ram..

I think, something as feedbag is a good thing in a Blog to know what’s check it out as next and try to fix it to be run it like in Xorg was…

so, just as feedback …

Yes, the manual dragging is not really usable and I doubt anyone is really using that.

The “partial cloning” approach, on the other hand, is super easy to use and one of Plasma’s killer features.

People with less capable setups have extremely bad presentation experiences.

They need to either type blindly, twist their head to look at the projection rather than their screen, use a second monitor to mirror the projection, create some kind of virtual display with OBS or similar tools, or outright forgo helper features like presenter notes.

I can highly recommend people try “partial cloning” the next time they do a presentation!

@idkfa, it does regardless get killed by the OOM killer, right? Anyway, maybe you could attach perf to Dr. Konqi, and compare it to gdb run with perf?

Like above “on top of”, cloned “on top of”, or in front “on top of”?

I think you definitely discovered a hidden coincidence of the current implementation! It does sound really useful though, and I think it might make sense to formally support that with some deliberate UI around it.

Interesting, but how do you then make your presentation exactly the right size? What software are you using for presenting?

Default sound theme is Ocean it seems. Is this the list you’re looking for?

And have you ever considered using a spell checker?

It is a combination of things.

When I am teaching I do that with a separate user account.
I have a manually saved Plasma session with certain programs on certain virtual desktops, e.g QtCreator on desktop 2, Firefox on desktop 3, etc.

Each of them restores in the correct size and position.

There are programs that aren’t always needed so they are not part of the session.
For these I have KWin rules to position and size them (and also remove window decorations).

Main presentation program is an in-house tool that let’s me set the “slide size” and which then runs full screen.
Its main window then shows the current slide in the top left portion (which is mirrored to the projector) and next slide plus speaker notes in the portion of the window that is not mirrored.
